Does anyone else hear the beginnings of "the lion sleeps tonight" whenever they hear kids say "campout!" together? Thank you Sandlot. So many memories.
The kids and I decided to go camping with our church group one weekend in September - without Dad.
It was kind of a big deal.
We ate our dinner on the drive down to the church property, but L-man asked every single person possible if he could help roast their hotdogs.
L-man was a crazy fire fan tonight. I've never seen his so entranced before. He literally just sat there for hours. He was burning up, I asked him to scoot back, and he said he wasn't hot at all. Just busy poking his stick in and out of the fire over and over again.
Lady-LE just sat in her chair eating dorritos.
R was actually able to join us for maybe two hours in the evening hours. Perfect for snuggling next to the fire, singing songs, and roasting s'mores with. I'm so glad he chose to come for just a small bit of it! Lady-LE sat on his lap almost the entire time, talking about marshmallows and each primary song she knew. Then sadly we said goodbye so he could at least get a few hours of sleep before going back to the hospital early the next morning. Speaking of morning ...
This was the view from our tent when we woke up.
The light and the fog took my breath away.
What a beautiful world we live in.
The night was long as it typically is when you're camping with little ones. But we were all snuggled together in a small tent, and we loved it. I was glad I had a moment of courage the day before and chose to come. The sunrise was enough reward for me!
I may not know the correct settings of my camera still (in all honesty I haven't been studying it, so it's all just trial and error at this point). But even if this is flawed I think it is beautiful.
Classic "cheese" pose.
The fog and mist were covering everything {soaking our tent in the process. I'm grateful that R likes to have good gear or else we would be soaked}, and it just hung above the earth like that for the first hour or so of light. Oh it was breathtaking.
We bathed in the sunlight all morning long. It was glorious. There are many analogies of Christ and light. I am grateful to feel of His light, and the warmth and joy that comes from it. The peace and happiness that comes from our Savior, Jesus Christ is indescribable. I hope I can continue to recognize it and soak it in like I tried to this morning.
The kids all had fun going on adventures while us adults had a delicious breakfast and broke camp.
Would I do it over? In a heart beat.
